New York, NY – August 21, 2018 – The Women’s Association of Venture and Equity (WAVE), a nonprofit organization committed to the development and advancement of women in private equity and venture capital, is holding its Second Annual Women in Alternatives Career Access Forum on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the Hilton Midtown Hotel in New York. WAVE is currently accepting sponsorship and Expo Table requests from firms interested in participating. Applications from candidates interested in starting or advancing their careers in private equity will be open from August 27 until September 23.
The Career Access Forum advances WAVE’s mission to broaden the funnel of women entering the alternatives industry and provides candidates the opportunity to learn, engage, and network with industry veterans across the spectrum of private equity careers (including buyout, venture capital, limited partners, placement agents, fund of funds, distressed, real estate, infrastructure, energy, and private credit).
WAVE’s inaugural Career Access Forum, held last year in Chicago, attracted more than 200 attendees. Chrissie Pariso, a limited partner from Exelon who co-chairs the event, added, “It was amazing to see so many young women interested in learning about the alternatives industry last year. We had great representation from undergrads to MBA students and the level of talent really impressed the attending firms. Exelon is committed to building a pipeline of women in these fields and this was a great venue to connect with potential candidates.”
Interested candidates for the 2018 Career Access Forum need to apply for registration. WAVE welcomes applications from women who are interested in learning about or wanting to work in the alternatives industry including, but not limited to: undergraduate students, MBA students, investment banking analysts/associates, management consulting analysts/associates, accountants, lawyers, marketers, entrepreneurs and operators. Registration opens on August 27 and candidates must submit resumes by September 23, 2018; candidates will be notified of participation acceptance by October 15, 2018. Registration for candidates is free and WAVE also offers a limited number of complimentary hotel rooms and other travel cost reimbursements for out-of-town candidates on a first come / first serve basis. To apply, resumes can be submitted through the online application available at the WAVE website: www.women-wave.org.
The Lead, Platinum, and Host sponsorships for the 2018 Career Access Forum have already sold out. Blackstone and Landmark Partners are co-Lead sponsors. Platinum sponsors are The Carlyle Group, Madison Dearborn Partners, StepStone Group, and KKR, and TPG is the Host sponsor. Gold and Platinum sponsorships are still available as are Expo Tables, which include passes for two representatives, inclusion in the Expo Book, and access to the Candidate Resume Book. Interested organizations should email email@example.com for a full list of options and updated availability.
Kirsty McGuire, deputy general counsel at StepStone Group and co-chair of the Career Access Forum, shared, “At WAVE, our objective is to bring better information to women about the breadth of career options available in the private equity sector and to provide them access to employers and opportunities.”
The headlines and studies on the lack of women in private equity and venture capital are pervasive despite the recognition of the value of diversity by many organizations. There is a definite pipeline and persistence problem with attracting and keeping women in private equity. The WAVE Career Access Forum aims to solve this problem by providing a unified platform, leveraging support from affiliated industry groups, to help encourage women to lean into and persist with the industry. The Career Access Forum also efficiently helps employers begin to solve the continued issue of finding qualified female candidates across all levels of the industry. Shannon Zoller from Tephra, a WAVE Board Member and co-chair of the Career Access Forum, added, “There are so many misconceptions about what careers in this industry entail and little access to networks for women to help demystify the space. The WAVE Forum, along with partner organizations broadly, help provide access in a more efficient, scaled manner for women researching the space, as well as GPs and others to source and find talented women.”
Kathleen McCarthy, Senior Managing Director and Global Co-Head of Real Estate at Blackstone, which is a Co-Lead Sponsor of the WAVE Career Access Forum said, “At Blackstone, we recognize and support the need for a diverse and inclusive workforce. It not only makes us more talented investors but also serves to enhance our firm culture. We are thrilled to co-sponsor this year’s WAVE event. We hope our partnership here will help advance our efforts to attract more diverse talent to the industry that can grow and become future firm leaders.”
“We are proud to be a longtime sponsor of WAVE and excited to have the opportunity to be a co-lead sponsor of the Career Access Forum this year,” said Kathryn Regan, Managing Director at Landmark Partners. “Last year’s event proved to be beneficial for women interested in careers in alternative investments as well as the various GPs, placement agents, and LPs that were in attendance. This year’s event is sure to foster the same kind of connections for all involved and Landmark is delighted to be a part of it.”
Other Career Access Forum sponsors include Gold sponsors New Mountain Capital and Searchlight Capital Partners, Silver sponsors ABS Capital Partners, Charlesbank, CohnReznick, Eisner Amper, Maranon Capital, and Oaktree Capital, and Print sponsor Lockton Companies.
